The Spare Some Change Movement

Step 1:  The National Campaign - Be the Voice!

During the process of making American Street Kid, the actual filming of the movie became just one part of the equation.

So many of the kids asked us to help them find a safe place, off the streets, so they could start to get their life together.  The most astonishing thing we found is how many obstacles are in the way of making that happen.

The other critical factor that became abundantly clear is that most Americans have no idea that almost 2 million kids are homeless in our country.

So, we created Spare Some Change, a non-profit organization with two goals:

  • Utilize the arts & media to raise awareness for homeless youth.

  • Create a one-on-one mentoring program and build a new kind of housing & healing facility that helps kids get and stay off the streets for good!

The first step as an organization is to complete American Street Kid and launch the media and movement campaign.  It is our firm belief that awareness is the first step in creating change.

Our goal is to use American Street Kid as a vehicle to increase the awareness around homeless youth and inspire audiences to get involved and create change.

After completing the film festival circuit, we will take American Street Kid on a community screening tour.  Every politician, advocate, policy maker, outreach counselor, teacher, parent, teenager, administrator, community member and homeless youth will be invited to attend.  By opening up the conversation, about the causes of youth homelessness, the obstacles to getting kids off the streets and the potential solutions, we can begin to create concrete changes.

The next step is working one-on-one with the kids to inspire, educate and encourage them to be able to create change in their own lives.  Click here to read more about The Mentoring Program
